I held my son in the middle of the night after he woke up screaming and crying from a nightmare. I felt so bad, so heartbroken. All I could do was hold him and assure him that it would be ok and that I loved him. This is what came from that night as I was reminded of some of the same experiences growing up.
Having children really reminds me of my experiences and pains while growing up. And while I don't want my son's to have "my experiences" but their own, knowing that we all go through this in one way or another draws me closer to them.
